Brand New Day

"But now I can't even be human ever again," Vi said as she hopped on to his fingers, "Can you change me back Pernas?"

Pernas held her up. "I don't know." he said. "I can look, and I can try." he looked up. "Oh, when is father going to get here? He could fix everything."

Vi nodded her little head, "Don't let my dad hold me if you please. He might squish me. He's not exactly gentle especialy when he's emotional."

"Okay." Pernas said, lightly cupping his hand over her, so that Father couldn't grab her.

"Violet!" he shouted, running to them. "Oh, God, thank God you're alright!" he said, sinking to his knees.

"I'm fine," Vi said softly as her father knelt down. He looked terrible. As if he hadn't slept in days and she believed it. She shifted under Pernas' protective hands, "You look terrible."

"We've been worried sick." Pernas said.

"But..." Father said. "What are we going to do? Can we change her back?" he asked.

"I don't know." Pernas said painfully. "I never was good at magic..."

"Then get good at magic!"

"Don't worry if you can't do it, Pernas," Vi said, trying to keep her father calm more then anything, "You said your father was coming right? He made this island so he should be able to do something as small as change me back in to a human. Ralph too."

"I hope so..." Pernas said. "I just hope he can get here soon... maybe he can do something about Captain Carbonbuckle, too." he sighed, sitting down.

"I don't know what to do about him, or his herd." he said, sadly. "They hate me."

Vi wasn't sure how to consul him so she hopped to his shoulder and rubbed her tiny body against his neck, "Don't worry I bet he'll figure it all out."

"I want them to love me." Pernas said. "The birds all love me, but the cows don't. And it's not just that they don't love me, it's that they hate me."

"I love you and if you can convinse me then you can convinse them," Vi said in her little voice.

Pernas smiled. "Thank you." he said, holding her to his breast. "That makes me feel better." he said.

Vi nuzzled his hands and was a little surprised at how softly he held her. He knew that she would be very easy to break, "We'll figure this out I'm sure."

A bird pipped up, "I apologize for interupting but Cee's herd is on the move."

"What?" Pernas asked, looking up at the bird. "On the move? What on earth does he want?"

"Well," Vi shifted a bit nervously, "He's going to go preach to the other groups to try and get more followers."

"Oh." Pernas said. "Wonderful."

"Ahh, don't worry about it." another bird chimed in cheerfully. "The Flock's here, also. They'll be trying to recruit, too."

Vi ruffled her feathers, "I think I have an idea about how to get to Cee, Pernas." She shifted, "There is this cow, he has red fur, and he annoys Carbonbuckle a lot. He's a real strong supporter but if you got Cee made enough he might try to attack him and the others saw that he would attack even his strongest supporter. Maybe some of them would turn away?"

"Oh?" Pernas asked. "Hmm. Thanks. I just need to think of what I can do. Maybe the Flock can debate them back. Sometimes they can convince people who don't like me to, well... like me. Though they might not be as influential anymore."

"Why not?" Vi asked a bit stubbornly, "It's worth a try right?"

"I don't know." Pernas said. "We'll let the Flock do their preaching. Might be nice if they could win others over. One time they had a lot of members." he smiled. "Those were nice times. Ah well." he stood up. "Cee's little movement won't last forever, anyhow."

"What are you going to do?" Vi had to cling on tight as he stood up but managed to keep her self on.

Pernas stopped. "I don't know..." he said, thinking. Then an idea hit him. "I'll play my violin!" he said, walking over to where he'd been sitting before. "That's it... I'll play my violin."

"Pernas?" Vi had to quickly flit to his head, "Why are you playing your violin?"

"Because," Pernas said, walking to the field. "It's pretty and it makes me happy. And maybe it'll make them happy, too."

"What if they try to kill you, Pernas?" Vi asked with a note of worry in her voice, "You're violin is quite beautiful but it might just annoy them."
