Brand New Day

Her mother stood up right and by the chair that her father had sat down in, "I'll stand, thank you."

Reyna had an insane urge to run over and shake her until her head popped off like a broken bobble head. Though instead she stood tall and taught by Eonoe's side. Her wings were slightly opened though and the horns were tall and branched off in to several points.

"Very well." Eonoe said, nodding politely. "Hopefully, the facilities here will be enough to accommodate you during your stay."

"Hello, Reyna." The father said. "I see you've... changed, significantly since we last saw each other."

"Of course she has she's been eating off of that dragon," The mother replied a bit snidely.

Reyna twitched but looked at her and said, "I wont have you mentioning anything about me. You can tell it to me in private or to Eonoe in private but I wont have you scarying Pernas. If you scare Pernas even a tiny bit I will throw you off of the tallest mountain."

Her mother smiled, "As always you use only violence. I'll say what ever I want to say."

Reyna's hands tightened to fists, "I mean it. Pernas doesn't deserve to be afraid, ever."

Her mother stared at Reyna for a few moments and then moved to sit down in a chair, "Fine, I wont say anything to Pernas, who ever he is."

"Reyna, please." Eonoe said in a calming voice. He looked at the mother with a look of annoyance. "Nobody is getting thrown off of a mountain. And for that matter, I think it'd be best if we kept the whole 'food' thing between ourselves. I have other guests here who might not take particularly well to that."

"How do we know that you aren't making her condition worse?" The father asked, a little suspicious. "We're quite aware that she becomes more hungry while around more powerful... 'food.'"

Eonoe looked at Reyna. "She looks like she's doing alright to me." he said, with a bit of a laugh. He looked back at them. "I'm a dragon. We're made of stronger stuff. Besides, we're very careful how we go about it."

"Hm." The father said. "I suppose this means you want our blessing for your marriage?"

"Well, that would be a nice thing to have." Eonoe said.

Reyna staid silent now and let Eonoe talk. He probably could keep a more level head about things then she could. Her fingers twined in to his and she squeezed it gently.

"Depends, I want to meet this Pernas," The mother said, "I'm guessing you're son by Reyna's reaction?"

"Yes." Eonoe said, putting his other hand on hers, to calm her. "My adopted son. He's, umm..." he searched for the right words. "...very simple-minded." He got up.

"Reyna and I have a few more decorations to put up." he said, sensing Reyna's uneasiness. "You're free to go where you like. Pernas will probably be in the garden or playing the violin somewhere. You can probably find him-"

"Daaaaad," Pernas said, walking in.

"Easily." Eonoe finished.

"Oh, there's that record," Pernas said, heading for the phonograph.

"Pernas." Eonoe said.

"Huh?" Pernas said, turning around.

"This is Mr. and Mrs. Le." Eonoe said, introducing them. "Reyna's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Le, this is Pernas, my adopted son. Now, Reyna and I should be going."

Reyna was standing firmly planted though, "Get you're record, first."

Her mother greeted Pernas though, "Hello, I guess I would be your grandmother in law."

Reyna staid firm even though she knew Eonoe wanted to drag her away right then.

"Ohh, er..." Pernas said, torn between answering his grandmother-in-law and obeying Reyna. "Hi." he said quickly to the mother, before grabbing the record from the phonograph, and then more politely turning to answer her. "Sorry..." he said. "Hi. I'm Pernas Vaaldaren."

"How do you do?" the father said.

"Pretty well." Pernas said. "Got a bit problem with the cows all solved, and I've been working on the garden."

"He's got quite a lovely garden." Eonoe said. "You'll have to see it."

"Well, it's right outside of this cave."

"We're in a cave?" The father asked, looking around.

"A very well-furnished one, albeit." Eonoe said.

"So you abandon your children in caves?" The mother remarked and Reyna gave her glare that could have killed.

"Like Eonoe said, a very, very will furnished cave," Reyna said lightly. She released a bit of her anger and as she looked up at Eonoe. She was probably worrying him. She took a deep breath and turned back to her parents, "How about we all go look at the gardens? Unless Pernas' minds giving us another tour."

Pernas looked a bit confused. They seemed to be a bit... on edge. Well, Reyna seemed on edge, the mother seemed like she was barely concealing some snide contempt, the father looked annoyed, and Eonoe looked worried.

"Uhh..." Pernas said. "There's a lot more than this cave. I think most of the island isn't caves, actually..."

"I think Reyna's right." Eonoe said. "We should see the garden."

"Oh, sure." Pernas said. "I can show you all around."

Reyna leaned against Eonoe softly to try and ease some of his worry as Pernas lead them outside and in to the garden, 'I'm sorry. I'll try to be calmer. Just it's hard I feel so protective of you and Pernas.'

Her mother was quickly immersed in asking questions, "So what do you use to water them? Does it rain here? Where do you get all the plants? Do you weed it all your self?" Though each were seperated by Pernas' answers.

I don't think there's a need to be protective. Eonoe said, putting an arm around her and letter her head rest on his shoulder. Your mother just doesn't like me very much.

"There's a river, y'see." Pernas said, indicating a direction that was obscured by the foliage. It irrigates the whole garden, I think. And it rains, too." he said. "I've got a control panel so it can rain whenever I want it. I don't really mess around with it, though. Wouldn't want to break anything. It just rains on a fairly regular basis." he said. "Father left a lot of seeds here. And from them, I just got more seeds from the plants themselves." He looked down at an apple that had fallen from a tree. "It's amazing how far a few seeds can go, isn't it?" he said, with an inwardly happy smile on his face.

"We help with the weeds." A bird piped up. "We also help plant seeds."

'She hates everyone,' Reyna told him softly, 'Especialy me.'

Reyna listened to Pernas explain to her mothers questions and couldn't help but be proud. Her mother was totaly listening. Perhaps she liked gardening? There had always been plants in her house. Although, Reyna never really noticed much.

Though her mother jumped as the bird spoke, "The birds can speak? Isn't that physicaly impossbile?"

The father chuckled. "I gave up on what is and isn't physically possible quite a while ago." he said.

"Are you new guests?" the bird asked.

"Yes." Pernas said.

"Are they dragons?" the bird asked.

"No." Pernas said.

"Oh..."

"I have a lot of flowers and trees." Pernas said. "That's what I have, mostly. Here I have some jacaranda trees." he said, indicating the trees with their bright purple leaves. "They get messy, though." he indicated all the leaves scattered on the ground.

"Makes it very beautiful though," her mother pointed out and looked up at the birds, "Can they sing still?"

Reyna was pleasently surprised and nuzzled against Eonoe's chest a little more. She didn't know what to do but so far trusting Eonoe and Pernas was enough.

"Sure we can." the bird said, tweeting out a pleasant little birdsong. Another bird next to it then broke into full-blown lyric coloratura soprano.

The father raised his head, surprised by that.

Eonoe laughed as he nuzzled Reyna's head.

"I try to get them into a choir, but they're hard to organize." Pernas said, scratching his head.

"I would imagin," Her mother said as she gazed at the singing bird.

Reyna looked up at him and smiled, "When are you planing the wedding any way Eonoe? In the evening or at midday?"

"Midday, I think." Eonoe said. "That way, we'll have plenty of time for the reception, and the rest of the day to enjoy."

"That means I don't have to spend the whole day getting ready for it." Pernas said. Eonoe laughed.

"Yes, that is true." He said. He was thankful that things seemed to be going better. The mother didn't seem as uptight now.

"What kind of birds you got here?" The father asked.

"Oh, lots. Mainly, ones that don't eat each other, I think." Pernas said.

"That would be awkward. You are reborn and eaten by the bird that you had eaten in your past life," The mother commented, "We have our outfits."

The father held up a bag for a moment to show that they did.

"That would make it ironically fitting, though." Pernas said.

"Wonderful." Eonoe said, putting his hands together.

**TIME SKIP**

When Reyna woke up, there was a breakfast tray with the usual food - eggs, bacon, bread... and a note.

"It's generally bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other before the wedding.

Love,
Eonoe."

Reyna smiled and ate the food slowly. When she finished she read the note over again and then grabbed up his pillow and burried her face in to his smell. She smiled against it as she repeated the note in her head.

Vi knocked on the door, "Ms. Le? I'm here to help with getting you ready."

Reyna was across the room in a matter of moments and flung open the door, "Call me Misses. Vaaldaren!"

Vi was surprised at her jubulance though she couldn't help but smile and wonder if she would be able to be this happy when she got married, "Okay, Reyna."

Reyna smiled and moved back in to the room with Vi in tow.

Eonoe was in another room, admiring the suit Reyna had made for him. Pernas, likewise, was in a nice suit, staring at Eonoe in the outfit.

"It's just so... different." Pernas said.

"I suppose so. But my wardrobe is somewhat stagnant." Eonoe said. "A change is welcome." he looked at Pernas. "Are you holding up okay?"

"I'm kind of nervous." Pernas said. "I don't know why."

"I'm a little nervous, too." Eonoe said. "This is a big deal for me. For all of us."

"You never expressed any interest in getting married or anything before." Pernas said.

"Well, things happen." Eonoe said. "Sometimes you just meet someone that you never want to leave. Now, why don't you go see how our guests are doing? Also, make sure that Belan is almost ready."

"Okay." Pernas said, exiting.

Reyna's father came and knocked at her door. "May I come in?" he asked quietly.

Reyna was only half dressed but decent for her father to come see her. Vi answered the door. She now wore her own dress with a frock thrown over it to protect it while she worked with Reyna's dress.

"Welcome, Mr. Le," Vi said with a smile. She seemed to have come out a bit being able to help Reyna.

"Hello." Mr. Le said, walking in. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about the way your mother and I treated you." He sat down. "Are you... happy?" he asked. "Do you think you will be?"

As Vi set on the last lair he spoke. When Vi gave Reyna the okay she was across the room in moments and hugged her father. She was crying, "I-I'm just a bit nervous but yes, I'm happy."
